You want to make sure you look your very best in your wedding photos, right? Well, wedding skincare plays a big part in that! Believe it or not, there are things you can be doing now to make sure you have that “Wedding Day Glow” later. Read on for tips on how to get your skin in tip-top shape ahead of your big day.

One Year Out: Form Good Habits

If you’re one of those people who falls asleep in a full face of makeup, forgets to wash their face, and has no semblance of a skincare routine—don’t worry. You’re not alone. But now’s the time to start breaking some of those bad habits and create a solid wedding skincare routine. Wash your face every night. Set up a moisturizing routine before bed and in the morning, making sure your daytime moisturizer includes SPF to protect your skin from harsh sunlight. While we’re on the topic, be sure to use plenty of sunscreen when you’re outdoors for prolonged periods of time. Follow these simple steps and your wedding skincare routine will be set to get you glowing on your special day.

Six months out: Support your Skin

If you have acne scars, age spots, or dark circles you’re trying to get rid of before your big day, you might want to try a new retinoid. Retinoids are a tried-and-true vitamin-A derivative used topically to increase cell turnover, making for fresher, healthier skin. Some people also take collagen supplements to increase skin elasticity and reduce the look of wrinkles. An added benefit: it’s known to work wonders for hair and nail health, too! Of course, always consult your doctor before trying new supplements, especially if you’re on any kind of medication.

One Week Before: Get a Facial

But only if you have done it before. Make sure you know what happens with your skin after a facial. You don’t want to trial that the week of the wedding. To get your skin that special glow, make sure to pamper yourself with a facial. Try not to schedule harsh peels or treatments that could cause irritation. Instead, focus on hydration and cleansing. Choose treatments that increase circulation and decrease puffiness. Your esthetician will certainly be able to suggest some popular bride or groom-to-be packages! What is better than wedding skincare as a couple?

Days before: Stop Experimenting

A few days before your wedding, it’s time to stop experimenting. Don’t buy a brand-new moisturizer on a whim and slather your face with it—you never know what kind of reaction you’ll have! Same thing goes for makeup. Everything you’re planning to wear on your big day should be tested out well in advance.  Trust us on this. You don’t want to try anything new that could potentially irritate your skin, no matter how “gentle” it claims to be.

Day Of: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

By the time your wedding rolls around, you’ve spent months getting your skin prepped for this moment. So stop worrying. Just make sure to keep your skin soothed and hydrated. Avoid extra stress (it can be hard, we know) that could cause breakouts. It’s time to relax! You’ll be radiant on your wedding day, and so will your skin.
